Amazing Grace

Response to Amazing Grace DVD-10 RE

Why was William Wilberforce determined to end the slave trade?
William was determined to end the trade slave as he believed that it was social injustice. He believe that everyone was equal.

How did he ultimately achieve his objective?
Through perseverance, over 15-20 years he abolished the slave trade which meant that slaves could not be taken from Africa to the west indies.

Why were so many of the politicians initially opposed to the removal of the practice?
Many politicians opposed the idea of abolishing slave trade because they benefited from the slave trades as they owned some of farming plantations where the slaves worked. Also they did not want to lose what they had and did not want to see this asset go to the French aristocracy.

What evidence was there of Wilberforce’s Christian faith?
He asked the clergyman for his opinion to become a politician. Throughout the movie, we also see William praying to God.

How did Wilberforce’s Christian faith impact on his actions?
His actions were impacted through his faith as he wanted to serve god and become a better person. William was compassionate and believed in social justice. At the start of the movie he was unsure weather or not he should become a clergyman or politician but then decided that he should make the world a better place through his amazing speaking ability and voice and become a politician- so he could use his strengths to make a better world.

What did you think of the movie?
I really liked the movie. It was interesting to see the story behind the well known song- "Amazing Grace". The story was a little confusing as it chopped and changed between the years a bit, but with the teacher giving some narrative as to what was happening, throughout the movie, I understood what was happening. It was also inspirational to see how one determined man can make such a change in so many peoples lives through perseverance. It was also also a true story, apart of History. William fought long and hard to win the vote for anti-slave trade.

How might the movie’s message impact on your own life?
The movie taught me to: stand up for what you believe in and don't give up!! You often don't hear what people went through to achieve their goals- you just hear the facts. William Wilberforce preserved and overcome so many mountains along the road to lead to a better world- all over an amazing estimated 15 YEARS!!

Homeless

Religion 28/7/11 - you tube clip a tale of two sheds

The problems evident are poverty & homelessness. These problems can be solved through education on children to help them escape poverty and have a better life; they need a school, teaches, libraries & textbooks . Partially girls need to be looked after so that they don't fall into marriage at a young age. so that  I encourage this idea that poverty can be combated through education & want to appreciate having a good education. We can help the homeless by  donating money.

Stories told
My response to the stories is that we should all help the homeless and that we are very lucky to have a roof over our heads and be in a safe environment. You can help the homeless by donating to charity.

Readying from the Booklet---
"Sex God's Story"

What is the point made?
The point is to show that you should not manipulate other people to have sex or else you lose yourself and loose your humanity.

Sexuality is about connections. If it is just sex and you have no connection to the person then it is not as meaningful. For some people, it is just a physical thing.

He is implying that human beings are much more than animals we have self control and we think about it. For it to make sense for us, we need to be emotionally attracted too.

    21/2/10

    Right and Wrong
    21/2/10

Where do our ideas about right and wrong come from?
From an early age our parents teach us about what is right and wrong.
And also our teachers teach teach us what is right and wrong by creating rules in the classroom with consequences.
From our conscious and our instinct.
    The media and friends.

List 20 things that you consider to be wrong.
    -don't steal
    -don't lie
    -say please and thank you
    -don't swear
    - don't forge
    -smoking
    -drugs
-not caring for others and being selfish
    -don't cheat
    -don't murder
    -rape
    -stealing
    -running a red light
    - war is wrong

How do we explain the fact that people sometimes go against their instinct of self-preservation to put their lives at risk and rescue others?

Because they feel it is the right thing to do.
Deep down we think there is a responsibility to go out of our way and put our life on the line because there is a deep down sense of what is right and wrong.

Movie Trailer: Love and Other Drugs

    a) some of the issues implied by the film clip is that of casual relationships (instead of a full on relationship). The film suggests that if you are both keen on it just do it ( like a one night Stand).
    b) This applies to some popele sonetimes. It depends on who you are and what you value and believe in. This movie explores issues which are common in popular culture.
    c) some of the order rules are: get a room, safety, and only have it if you are in a relationship with someone. And if you are over the age of16. Some people take the conservative view (only when married) or when you are in a steady realtionship. Some just have one nightbstands- whenever or with whoever.
    d) if you are in love, this is some people's ways of expressing.
